Obama’s family is a brood almost like any other even on the campaign trail, with set routines (chores!), boundaries ($1 allowance!) and playtimes (movie nights!).

The presidential candidate revealed in his interview about his family’s three-story home in Chicago in June, and again on July 4, at a park in Butte, Mont., where the family campaigned and celebrated Malia’s birthday – about the task of raising two girls, including 7-year-old Sasha, under the public eye.

Barack Obama also revealed: “I usually go for the swim but this time I want to go to the movie just because Wall-E has gotten great reviews. I find actually that children’s movies are the best movies these days. But I’ll probably, after that, peel off until the cake.”

Michelle laughingly added: “Peel off.”

Barack Obama replied: “I’m out of town all the time, so Malia will say, “Hey, you owe me 10 weeks!” … Originally, we were giving her a dollar a week as long as she did all her chores. Barack Obama answered: “ I would sometimes do the laundry – although not fold, I have to confess.”
Michelle added: “Which is really pretty useless.”

Barack Obama also revealed: “But clean clothes, that’s something. … I mean, look, I gotta be honest. For the last 17 months I’ve been on the road 98 percent of the time.”

Michelle added: “His job is to be there when requested. Right now, it’s important for him to be at parent-teacher conferences, piano recitals, things that are important to the girls. It’s less the household stuff because the household works; it’s more being there for them, which he has done an outstanding job at. There are few things that he’s missed that were important to them.”

With sources confirming Jennifer Garner is four months pregnant with her second child with Ben Affleck, the couple are being praised as loving, attentive parents.

Now, a source confirmed that Jonas, 15, and Gomez, 16, are an item, saying, “They’ve been dating for months.”

A representative for the Jonas Brothers maintains there’s no romance. “They are not girlfriend and boyfriend. They’re friends. All of the Jonas Brothers are friends with Selena.”

Evidence suggests that the pair are close. Selena Gomez, who appears in the Jonas Brothers’ video “Burnin Up,” has been photographed skateboarding wearing an Elvis Costello T-shirt, an item which Jonas admitted that the certain item was one of his favorite things. A judge declined to change the extent of Charlie Sheen’s visitation privileges with his children but made modifications to the custody arrangement in place following a hearing on Monday, July 21, prompting lawyers for Sheen and Denise Richard to both claim victories.

It is not clear what the two exes were feuding over.

Stan Rosenfield, who is the publicist, said: “Charlie [Sheen] only wants what is best for his young children. It is unfortunate that Richards and her attorney are trying to create a media circus to help her promote her reality television series.

Denise Richards took the dispute to court on Thursday, July 17, seeking an emergency protective order to restrict Charlie’s visitation rights. However, the judge dealing with their custody dispute, Harvey Silberman, was not in court that day. A sit in the judge asked Denise’s attorney to raise the issue with Silberman on his return on Monday.

While Denise Richards was present in the court along with her lawyer today, Charlie [Sheen] stayed away. Rattled by the recent publication of photographs of the family unwinding on the grounds of their sprawling estate, taken using powerful telephoto lenses, Jolie and Pitt have engaged high-powered Los Angeles-based law firm Lavely & Singer to make sure the paparazzi look elsewhere for their pay checks in the future.

A letter sent to various media outlets by the law firm warns them not to publish any photos that infringe on the privacy of Pitt and his family.

“We have become aware that certain photographs were surreptitiously taken of Mr Pitt and his family as they engaged in familial activities on private property, namely, in the privacy of the estate in which they are presently residing in France and where they had a reasonable expectation of privacy (the “Photos”).

It is clear that the Photos were taken by paparazzi photographers with the use of highly powerful telephoto lenses, and that the taking of the Photos constitutes a malicious violation of Mr. Pitt’s right of privacy, including under the laws of California and France.”

The letter goes on to claim that the photo agency that sold or licensed the “surreptitiously taken” photos has since removed them from its website.

It is likely that Brad and Angelina’s concerns about powerful telephoto lenses stem as much from their need for privacy as the need to ensure that photos of their new born twins, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, are first made available to an agency ready to pay millions to a charity of their choice.

Vanessa Hudgens is to front a new back-to-school campaign for U.S. clothing firm Sears.

The 19-year-old actress was shot by acclaimed director Joseph Kahn for the company’s new ads, which will appear on TV, online and in print.

The “Don’t Just Go Back. Arrive.” promotion will launch later this month in a bid to encourage school kids to start the new school term in style with Sears’ new line of products.

Under the terms of the custody settlement between Britney Spears and Kevin Federline on Thursday, July 17, the pop star will get an additional overnight with her toddlers every week and will pay an additional $5,000, according to the source.

The “Umbrella” singer has topped a new U.S. magazine poll aimed at naming the stars with the best hairstyles.

Rihanna beat Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Aniston to top the In Touch Best Hair In Hollywood list.

Jennifer Aniston’s dog reportedly hates her new boyfriend John Mayer.

Norman, a Corgi-terrier cross, is said to have “taken a disliking” to the “Gravity” singer, despite his best efforts to befriend the moody mutt.

A source revealed: “It’s funny because John likes dogs but for some reason Norman has taken a disliking to him. Jennifer dotes on Norman.

The source continued: “She treats him like a child but she’s got to the point where she’s had to keep him out of the way if John is around.”

Jennifer Aniston has been reassuring John her beloved pet doesn’t hate him, but just needs to learn to trust him.

The source added: “Jennifer is convinced it will get better the more she and John spend time together. Norman is just picky about people.”

John Mayer is also keen to get to know Norman more, and he has recently been spotted taking him for walks around Los Angeles.

Lindsay Lohan dressed in a sequined multicolor Catherine Malandrino minidress partied with BFF Samantha Ronson at Sephora 10th Anniversary celebrations at the Angel Orensanz Foundation in New York City on Thursday, July 17.

She looked lean in her deep scoop neckline dress with spaghetti straps. Lindsay accessorized with black Mary Jane heels and a black fedora hat matching gal pal Samantha’s style.

She showed a little extra tan but her facial skin looks healthier. Overall she carried her look with confidence.

Lindsay Lohan was accompanied by her mother Dina and brother Michael to the event which was deejayed by Samantha.

After the party, the seemingly inseparable Lindsay and Samantha went to the Bowery Hotel in Lower Eastside and hung out there.

Lindsay’s lawyer, Blair Berk, recently reported her compliance to DUI probation requirement to a Beverly Hills judge. She has completed her community service and paid a visit to the morgue.

The judge was satisfied with the report. The next progress report is set for January, 2009.

On August 23, 2007, Lindsay Lohan was sentenced to a day in jail, 10 days community service and a maximum of three years probation, after she pleaded guilty to two DUI offences committed in May and July 2007.

It is the most anticipated film to hit cinemas this summer, and the new Batman movie is living up to all expectations by setting a single-day box office record on its first 24 hours of release in the US.

With a cast led by British stars Christian Bale and Michael Caine, plus the late Heath Ledger – who is hotly tipped to be awarded a posthumous Oscar for his chilling portrayal of The Joker – “The Dark Knight” took £33.2 million when it debuted in the US on Friday.

With such a high figure the Warner Bros flick has soared past the previous record of £29.9 million set by “Spider-Man 3”, starring Tobey Maguire, last year.

Warner Bros’ Dan Fellman revealed: “We have been thrilled by the response to The Dark Knight, first from critics and now from audiences.”

”The Dark Knight” will be hitting screens in the UK on July 21.

Lily Allen’s boyfriend wants her to cut back on her drinking.

The “Smile” singer’s boyfriend, 38-year-old Chemical Brothers star Ed Simons, reportedly asked her to tone down her wild ways now they have rekindled their relationship.

Lily, 23, went on a marathon partying session following the couple’s split in February, which came just weeks after they announced she had suffered a miscarriage.

A friend of the singer revealed: “Lily took their split very badly. Lily is besotted with Ed and did all she could to get him back. He adores her too, but doesn’t want things to go back to the way they were.”

The celebrity couple was spotted together at the Glastonbury music festival in the UK last month.

They announced their relationship was back on by changing their profiles on social networking website Facebook to read “in a relationship” earlier this month.

The source added: “Lily is over the moon and went online to tell everyone. But Ed’s asked her to keep it more low key. Lily’s promised him she’ll take things at his pace and isn’t drinking as much as usual.”

Britney Spears will reportedly pay her ex-husband Kevin Federline $20,000 a month to care for the former couple’s sons - an increase from $15,000.

The celebrity pair finally reached an agreement on the care of their two young sons on Thursday, following a bitter 18-month custody battle.

Under the new deal, Kevin Federline retains sole custody of Sean Preston, two, and Jayden James, one. But it has emerged Kevin Federline will also receive additional child support in the settlement.

The 26-year-old singer, who maintains her visitation rights with two visits and one overnight stay allowed each week, may also be granted an additional overnight stay by the end of the year.

A source revealed: “All Britney was seeking was a formalisation of her increased visitation that she’s obtained over recent weeks, and the additional overnight. She won both of those requests.”

It has also been reported Kevin Federline’s lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, received $250,000 for his work on the case.

There’s more to A-list superstar Demi Moore and her toyboy husband, 30-year-old actor Ashton Kutcher, than meets the eye.

Hollywood’s most glamorous couple, who are committed to the Kaballah faith, have just returned from Central America, where they have been building homes for a charity project.

A chum informed me that “They were working in Guatemala for a charity that helps indigenous organic farmers.”

The chum added: ”Demi’s daughter, Scout, went out to do the project a while ago. Demi and Ashton were actually building houses with tin roofs and shlepping breeze blocks in the midday sun. Ashton’s father is a carpenter so he has experience.”

She walked tall and looked fit in skinny white jeans and a grey scoop neck tank with brush stroked blue and white design on top as she left the salon. She carried a Louis Vuitton Damier Azur Speedy bag with leather handles and a checkerboard pattern.

The 20-year-old singer and actress, a former Disney channel teen star like Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears, was met by a crush of paparazzi that jostled for a picture as a salon staff member escorted her to her car.

Britney Spears will be permitted extra visits to see her two sons despite her former husband being awarded sole custody of the boys.

Kevin Federline was granted sole custody of Jayden James, one, and Sean Preston, two, after the Los Angeles superior court approved an agreement.

But Spears’ attorney Laura Wasser said the Toxic star is likely to gain “more custodial time” with her son in the coming months.

She currently sees the children twice a week, with one overnight stay permitted, but it is believed she may be allowed an additional overnight stay later this year, should her health continue to improve.

Last October, Britney Spears lost custody of her two sons and her visitation rights were restricted following her hospitalization in January.

Speaking outside court on Friday, Kevin Federline’s lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan said a settlement had been reached which gave his client sole legal and physical custody, with Spears having visitation rights.

He revealed: “The case has been settled. Kevin is absolutely delighted. Nobody could have anticipated the terms of events that have occurred… This was a two-year journey that will be halted at a point that is good for these children.”

Ms Wasser added: “Britney’s doing great. She’s very pleased [with the settlement]. The kids are with her right now.”

It has also been claimed by People magazine that with Federline being awarded sole custody, Spears’ child support payments to him will increase by $5,000 (£2,500) a month, up to $20,000 (£10,000).

You can’t believe everything you see – or don’t see – on MySpace, says American Idol’s Brooke White, who blames a technical glitch for the absence of David Archuleta as a “friend” on her page.

She wrote: “Don’t fret, my dears, David is one of my favorite people on the planet!!! Rest assured, we all are all super-duper friends, like family, actually, enjoying this tour together.”

The 25-year-old fifth-place finalist on last season’s show says only a technical issue has kept 17-year-old runner-up “Archie” from showing up on her “top friends” box. Both are now on an “American Idol” tour of the U.S. with the other contestants.

School’s out for Joe Jonas, Class of 2008. Before the taping of MTV’s new music FNMTV in Los Angeles, Kevin Jonas revealed: “A big congratulations to Joe.”

The 20-year-old member of Jonas Brothers just graduated from high school. It happened yesterday so it’s a big deal.”

Joe, 18, who took correspondence courses while touring, said he was relieved to have sent in his last high school assignment on Thursday.

He “played a concert” to celebrate, saying: “I haven’t heard from the school yet. But I’m officially done with the work.”

The Jonas Brothers also confirmed they will perform at their first MTV Video Music Awards in September.

Kevin Jonas revealed: “It’s pretty amazing. You grow up watching the VMAs. You know the performances, you see the pictures in every magazine.”

The Jonas Brothers plan to perform the second single from their new album “A Little Bit Longer”, due Aug. 12, for the first time on live TV at the VMAs.

Nick Jonas, 15, said: “It’s going to be an exciting performance. We’re going to involve the fans in it.”

John Mayer, who has been linked to Jennifer Aniston, has sparked some speculation that he flirts with a woman.

The woman, who was involved in the speculation, tearfully revealed that the magazine report “is completely not true” and she’s considering legal action against the magazine.

The magazine claims in a story titled “Jen’s Betrayed Again” that Mayer, 30, got “very flirty” with Chaton Anderson, 32, in Amsterdam on June 20. The magazine reports that Mayer described his “relationship status” as “very vague” and that he maintained “very intense” eye contact during a two-hour conversation.

Chaton Anderson, who stayed at the home in Manhattan Beach, revealed: “None of this is true.”

She explained: “I met John Mayer almost a year ago. I don’t understand why they’ve said it was this year.”

She continued: “Nothing happened anyway – nothing at all,” she added. “I just met him briefly and he said, ‘Hello, I’m John,’ and that was it! It was just groups of people in a coffee shop.”

A representative for John Mayer also denied the rumor by saying: “The In Touch story is false.”

How did the speculation started? Chaton Anderson added that she told a friend, who works at the tabloid, that she met Mayer “a long time ago” – and the story was fabricated from there. She had no idea that she would even be appearing in the magazine.

John Mayer has been in New York City on his tour (he took the stage with Billy Joel Wednesday night), while Jennifer Aniston has been miles away in West Hollywood. On Wednesday, she was spotted with a friend at a home decorating store.

Chris Finegan, who watched Heath Ledger’s stunning portrayal of the Joker on Friday in “The Dark Knight,” couldn’t help but think of another actor who wasn’t on the screen – James Dean.

Chris explained: “Heath Ledger is going to have the same impact on our culture as James Dean did.”

Alex, who is the 18-year-old son of Chris Finegan, revealed: “He went out with a hell of a bang.”

The 18-year-old son, who wore a T-shirt emblazoned with Heath Ledger’s leering Joker face in cracked white makeup and those red lips frozen in a sickening smile, saying: “He stole the show. It was everything I expected and more.”

Manhattan movie theaters are not usually packed at 9 a.m. on weekdays, but there was not a free seat to be seen at the AMC Lincoln Square multiplex on Friday morning, and lines lengthened all day.

Many fans were back after trying and failing — like the Finegans — to get into packed midnight performances.

Media By Numbers, a tracking firm, said the Warner Bros. film, directed by Christopher Nolan, set a box office record for a midnight debut, bringing in $18.5 million Friday from midnight screenings in 3,040 theaters — many of them open 24 hours. That bested the 2005 performance of “Star Wars Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith,” which took in $16.9 million at its debut. “The Dark Knight” figure didn’t include any of its 3 a.m. or 6 a.m. showings.

Susan Pepsin, 31, revealed: “When we were leaving at 3 a.m. people were still streaming in.”

Of course, as the latest installment in the Batman series, “The Dark Knight” likely would have been an event even without the added interest over Ledger, who died at 28 in January of an accidental prescription drug overdose. But Ledger seemed at the top of everyone’s mind. During the show, fans applauded many of the actor’s particularly demonic moments.

Michael Loizon, who was a 23-year-old asset manager in Manhattan, revealed: “He was unbelievable. I had no idea he’d be THAT good.”

His and his colleague, Michael Holmgren, played hooky from work to see the film. They didn’t get in trouble, though — their boss came, too.

John Pileggi, who was a big comic book and action-film fan, confessed: “I was the ringleader.”

On Heath Ledger’s performance revealed: “It was intense, overwhelming. It’s sad to say that it was the role of his life, because his life is over. He was so young. I have a son about his age, so I kept thinking about it.”

Katie Burns, who went to a midnight screening in Paramus, N.J., revealed: “The whole time you know it’s Heath Ledger, but at the same time you have to remind yourself that it’s him. He is so convincing.”

Pepsin said her screening in Hollywood was interrupted by a fire alarm — and even that didn’t ruin it.

Pepsin, who was a financial planner, said: “The character is so crazy, I felt at times, Oh my God, I can’t believe I’m watching this. These are images that will stay in my mind for a long time.”

Jared Yates, who was an engineer in St. Louis, Ledger’s performance was “perfect,” and there was only one moment where he was reminded — and jarringly, too — of the actor’s death. He added: “It was where Joker tells Batman that the two of them ‘could do this forever.” Of course, the moviegoer was reminded that that wouldn’t be possible.

Rihanna has announced that she is currently designing her own fashion range.

The singer revealed that she is keen to work hard on developing the collection, rather than simply agreeing to put her name to a project.

She told: “I am working on that right now. It takes a lot of effort, and I want to be involved with every step of the process.”

Rihanna also admitted that her own fashion sense is unconventional as she likes to break established style rules.

She explained: “The idea of not wearing brown and black together seems so dated. The other day I wore a black T-shirt, black. Nobody jeans, a brown leopard-print belt by Dolce & Gabbana, and brown Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, and it looked awesome.”

She added: “Also, the rule about not matching your makeup to your outfit. I do that onstage, matching red lipstick to a bright red jacket or neon-pink eye shadow to a pink jumpsuit. And I also love to mix prints.”

Jonas Brothers are up to their ears in reporters. Journalists aren’t the only ones after the band though – everyone is name-dropping them, from the Obama family, who talked up the Brothers in their exclusive Access Hollywood interview, to Coldplay.

Joe Jonas revealed: “Last night, at their concert, Coldplay went up and introduced themselves [to the crowd]. They said, ‘Hi, we’re the Jonas Brothers’ older brothers,’ Just the fact they knew who we were — we’re huge Coldplay fans so it’s just so cool.”

The band of brothers is making the most of its moment in the sun. Their latest star vehicle, Disney Channel original movie “Camp Rock,” scored 8.9 million viewers in its June 20 debut, and the group is currently on their U.S. “Burning Up” tour to promote their upcoming third album, “A Little Bit Longer.”

Despite all the hard work, they recently found time to take a vacation.

Nick Jonas revealed: “After the Disney Channel Games, we took a [week’s] vacation down to the Bahamas. It was unbelievable, we played golf everyday.”

The band stayed at the 10-room Bridge Suite at the Atlantis Hotel, where there was plenty of space to accommodate their entourage.

Nick Jonas added: “Our band, those are our best friends and we bring them out on the road.”
But life on the road isn’t just fun, games and interviews. They’ve also been working on their charity, the Jonas Brothers Change for the Children Foundation.

Nick, who was the youngest Jonas brother, also revealed: “Our main focus is kids with diabetes. Because I am a diabetic, that really has become a major thing for all of us as a family and as a band. [Kids] come up and say that we’re an encouragement just by singing a song – [it] makes you think, well if I just sing a song, what I can do if I really spend time to focus on this?”

Joe Jonas said: “So many times kids come to the meet-and-greets and they have diabetes and they’ll say to Nick, they finally feel like they’re not the only ones out there. It’s really cool to see that he can be such a leader for these kids.”

With support like that, it’s easy to see why there seems to be no sibling rivalry among the brothers Jonas.

Nick Jonas, who notes that if the things get tense on the bus, also said: “We’re each other’s best friends.”

Kevin Jonas also revealed: “We leave it on the course.”

Of course, there are a few things the young heartthrobs don’t have much time for – like dating.

Nick revealed: “[We’re] single guys.”

The younger brothers are also waiting for an opportunity to get their driver’s licenses.

Joe Jonas joked: “I have to do the driving test so maybe that can be an exclusive for you guys. You can come with me [to] get my driver test.”

Joe and Nick are planning on getting their driver’s licenses in September, with the elder brother looking to buy a Corvette. As for Nick’s pick?

He added: “It’s a Mustang GT 68. It’s beautiful.”

Salma Hayek and French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault, who is the father of her daughter Valentina, have called off their engagement.

The representative of Salma Hayek revealed in a statement: “We are sad to announce the engagement of Salma Hayek and Francois-Henri Pinault has been canceled. There will be no further comment.”

The 41-year-old actress revealed that she didn’t feel the “need” to get married. She revealed: “Do I think we are going to get married? Probably. Will it make a difference? I hope not. You want to grow old with someone, you want to have a partner and to have children we have all those things. Some people need the commitment. Maybe we’ll just make the party!”

The celebrity pair kept their relationship low-key since meeting in Venice in May 2006. They announced their engagement as soon as Salma Hayek’s pregnancy news came out. Their baby daughter Valentina was born last September.

The “Ugly Betty” producer expressed her desire to have a son, saying: “Probably because I was afraid. I think women suffer a bit more than boys, and there is always conflict between mothers and daughters.”

The actress quickly added: “Now that she’s here, I’m so happy she’s a girl. And I can’t imagine there ever being conflict between us, because I’m in a state of innocence where I love everything she does.”
