Before finding fame, Coyle recorded a demo CD which was distributed to Louis Walsh (now an ex-manager of Girls Aloud) and The Late Late Show. This songs included "Fields of Gold", "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", "Love Is", and "Summertime". The demo CD is very rare as only a few copies were made (Coyle gave most to her friends and family); one found its way onto eBay and was purchased for a high price.
Coyle first found fame in 2001 when, while attending Thornhill College, Derry, she entered the Irish version of the talent show Popstars. As one of the winners of the show, Coyle was selected to become a member of the group Six. Shortly after the group was formed, the members moved into a house together and all were interviewed on camera. Coyle was 16 years old at the time, and the minimum age for the group was 18. Whilst writing her date of birth, 15 June 1985, she was told to change the birth year to 1983. During an interview on Irish Popstars, where the contestants where asked for their dates of birth, Coyle slipped up and gave her real date of birth. She was then asked by Linda Martin, one of the show's judges, that if she was really 16 would she own up and tell the truth, to which Coyle answered, "Aye (yes) I would, I think it's only right." But when Coyle didn't tell the truth and protested on that she was 18, she was asked to produce her passport to prove her age, but she claimed that she'd left it at her home in Derry. Soon after she had been found out, and even though she had already won a place in the band Six, she was told that she had to leave because she was underage. She then returned to her secondary grammar school, Thornhill College.

In 2002, Coyle returned to enter the United Kingdom talent show Popstars: The Rivals at the invitation of manager, Louis Walsh. As she got through the first few rounds, her first fansite opened. She polled the third-highest number of votes in the final and was chosen to join the group Girls Aloud. During the series, she had been a heavy favourite to make the group. When asked to name a highlight from the show, presenter Davina McCall simply answered "Nadine."
The group's first single, "Sound of the Underground", was released in December 2002 and went to number one in the UK and Ireland.
With Girls Aloud, she has scored 20 top 10 singles (four of which have been Number 1s) and five platinum albums (including a Number 1) and a Number 1 Greatest Hits album. Nadine is often seen as "the voice" of the band and has the most vocal experience in the group, having taken part in and won two series of Popstars, the only person in the world to do so. Nadine has shown off her vocal talent several times whilst on UK tours with her band mates. She is the second youngest member of the band with bandmate Nicola Roberts being the youngest.
Louis Walsh has promised to make Nadine a solo star if and when Girls Aloud go their separate ways. However, she has constantly denied reports she will leave the girl group to become a solo artist.
Nadine has also co-written a few songs whilst in the group, including:
- "100 Different Ways" (What Will the Neighbours Say?)
- "Why Do It" (B-side to I Think We're Alone Now)
- "Sexy! No, No, No..."
Other work
Coyle filmed a cameo appearance in Natasha Bedingfield's video for "I Wanna Have Your Babies" in Los Angeles, California, United States.2 In 2007, Coyle and the other members of Girls Aloud made a cameo appearance as schoolgirls in the film St. Trinian's. The theme song of the official movie soundtrack that she recorded with her bandmates reached number 51 in the UK charts. Coyle also appeared on Keith Barry's show The Great Escape, which aired on ITV on 29 December 2007.3
She was reportedly approached by Gillette to advertise their female range of razors.4
Personal life
In 2004, Coyle split with her footballer (soccer) boyfriend Neil McCafferty because of their busy schedules. The pair had met in school and had been dating since 2000, but would remain friends.5
Coyle then met American actor Jesse Metcalfe in February 2006, and started dating him. On 21 April 2007, Metcalfe's publicist confirmed the couple had split and denied Metcalfe had cheated on Coyle after his stint in rehab,6 which Coyle later confirmed on Saturday Night With Miriam, saying they had already split before pictures were taken of Metcalfe with another woman.7 Despite reports to the contrary, Coyle told The Sun that she and Metcalfe had not re-established their relationship, and only met up with Metcalfe as friends.8 The couple has been split for some time, with Coyle's father saying "she did well to get shot of him."9
She has been dating New York Giants American football player Jason Bell since September 2008.101112
In September 2008, it was reported that Coyle was suffering from shingles, therefore was unable to take part in Jo Whiley's Live Lounge on BBC Radio 1, where the rest of the band performed a live version of their 19th single, "The Promise", as well as covering "Apologize", the hit from One Republic and Timbaland.
