Early years
Anna Benson was born outside of Atlanta, Georgia on February 12, 1976. In 1997, Benson met then-minor leaguer Kris Benson; they were married in October 1999. Anna and Kris Benson have three children: her daughter Alyssa and daughter Haylee and son P.J.
Life in New York
On July 30, 2004, the Pirates traded Kris Benson to the New York Mets. In November 2004, Benson posed for the cover and a spread in FHM magazine and was named "baseball's hottest wife."
In an interview with Howard Stern later that year, she vowed that if her husband ever cheated on her she would take revenge by sleeping with the entire Mets organization. The New York Post headline the next day read: "MET WIFE: I'M A TEAM PLAYER."1
In July 2005, she began playing at the 2005 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas under the nickname the "Gold Digger". She outlasted 70% of the overall playing field.
She continued generating additional controversy with her statement2 that Mets general manager Omar Minaya was "putting together an all-Latino team." Sports Illustrated found that Benson's "outlandish antics" had ultimately come to "overshadow" her husband's baseball performance.[1] Both the Mets and Kris Benson asserted that his trade from New York was strictly a business decision.
Personal life
Benson has stated that she hates PETA, gun control organizations, and Michael Moore [2]. An open letter to Moore can be found at her website.3
She currently resides in Atlanta. She has worked with charitable organizations over the years such as the Pittsburgh Children's Hospital, Salvation Army and American Red Crosscitation needed. The couple has a non-profit charity called Benson's Battalion that helps area police forces in the cities that her husband plays in. So far, the charity has donated $325,000 through the Battalion and an additional $325,000 to local charities that the Benson family supports.
